Generously funded by the Moray Sports Foundation, the project comprised the construction of a new state of the art sports facility to cater the needs of the people of Moray.
The main element of the project was the sports centre building constructed using a steel frame fitted with cladding panels. The roof was finished with a standing seam system together with photovoltaic panels. Externally, the site was finished with car parking, landscaping and drainage facilities.
BDG Thomson Gray provided a number of pre-contract services including co-ordinating the tender process, co-ordinating the novation of consultants and preparing contract documents.
Once the contract was awarded, BDG Thomson Gray provided Employer’s Agent services on the project.
The facility is the first of its kind in Moray, being the only multi-purpose building in the region that can host over 1,000 people at sporting events.
The Centre itself includes a large sports hall, soft play area, lounge area with servery, various activity studios, a cycling studio, an extensive gym, therapy rooms, a coaching hub, spacious inclusive changing facilities and adaptable conference space.
The completed project has already had a significant impact on the local area, providing an inclusive platform for all ages to engage in sporting activity.
Further phases are planned including outdoor recreational space and an indoor tennis centre.
“We were introduced to BDG Thomson Gray through our Charity’s Chairman. We were at a very important juncture with our ambition to deliver the Moray Sports Centre project and it was important to have their professional support.
Assisting us with everything from the Tender submissions, technical advice, forecasting and even ensuring that as a non-construction expert technical and construction language has been kept to a minimum. BDG Thomson Gray has been there every step of our project journey assisting and sometimes driving us forward to achieve our desired outcomes.
The team are very personable and we’ve always felt that they are working with us for a common goal. Offering whatever time is necessary to ensure understanding and enabling the correct and informed decisions can be made. This can sometimes mean many conversations or emails to help us along the way. They have been a huge support to us through the entire project.
Their expertise has ensured that we have been able to forecast the construction fees and are only paying what is deemed reasonable for the completed works and the supplies that are on site. This is vital to a new charity and allowing us to fundraise and plan our finances accordingly.
Our relationship now spans over 3 years and we can say with confidence that the project would not have reached its relevant milestones without the support of the BDG Thomson Gray team.” – Kathryn Evans, CEO, Moray Sports Centre
