Quantity Surveying services on new community hub

Client

Cults Parish Church

Location

Aberdeen

Cults Parish Church had a vision to build a community hub that would provide support and offer a variety of services to the local area. The site is that of the former Cults East Church, which combined with Cults West church in 2005, bringing to an end its 162 year history.

The project saw the construction of a central granite spine wall, running perpendicular to the main road, at a height of 15 metres.  To the West, the spine supports the steel frame of the halls, and to the East, the timber frame of the outreach centre. The introduction of three curved segments of timber and glass to the East, gives the building a dramatic appearance, which can be clearly seen from the main road and adjacent Public Park. To the West the blockwork has been finished with roughcast, while to the East, the external walls have been clad in timber.

The specification of all materials was carefully considered to ensure that the centre was a good example of an energy-efficient and ecologically-friendly building.  This was combined with the decision to re-use materials from the former church wherever practical.  Within the outreach centre, key granite features, such as the base course, retained door and window surround from the former church were introduced for visual and functional purposes.

Our Involvement

BDG Thomson Gray provided full construction cost consultancy services on the project. This included cost planning, tender preparation, negotiation and post contract financial control.

Project Outcomes
